Introduction
The Waitakere Indian Association
Senior’s Group was formed in June 2001.
This group was formed after receiving
several requests from the community that
resulted in the executive committee
giving the mandate to Mr Sunil Chandra,
director of elderly services to
formulate this group.
The first meeting was held at the
WADCOSS Community Centre in Henderson
.Mr James Naidu was elected as the first
President.
Objectives

To form a networking group for our
senior members of the community for
socialising and making new friends

To meet other seniors of Indian
origin residing in the area

To organise activities for physical
and mental wellbeing

To provide support and liaison for
new migrants

To
act as an advisory group on matters
of interest

To be a independent group affiliated
to WIA
Current status
The group is currently under the
leadership of Mr Dayal with support and
direction provided by Mr Rajesh Verma,
the director of elderly services.
Regular meetings and activities are held
on third Sunday of every month, starting
from 2.00pm at Corbans Estate in
Henderson
Current membership stands at 60 with
about 40 active members who take part in
regular activities.
